Start with the fire class, not the product
The most important step is matching the extinguisher to the fire class — the type of fuel. In the UAE the European class letters are commonly used: A (solids), B (flammable liquids), C (flammable gases), D (metals) and F (cooking oils). Electrical fires are handled by using a non-conductive agent rather than a dedicated class. Our full fire-extinguisher selection guide has the complete class table.
Quick picks by location
- Office — CO₂ for electronics + foam or water for paper and furnishings
- Server / electrical room — CO₂ or clean agent (non-conductive, no residue)
- Commercial kitchen — wet chemical (Class F) plus a fire blanket
- Warehouse / workshop — ABC dry powder, plus foam where liquids are stored
The mistakes that matter
Never use water or standard foam on live electrical equipment, and never use a CO₂ or water extinguisher on a cooking-oil fire — the jet can spread the burning oil. When in doubt, ask: we specify the right units and quantities for your site and arrange servicing and refills.
This is general guidance — confirm exact requirements with our team and your Civil Defence authority.
Frequently asked questions
Which extinguisher is best for an office?
Usually a combination — CO₂ near electronics and foam or water for paper and furnishings.
Can one extinguisher cover everything?
No — there is no universal extinguisher. The right type depends on the fire class and the location.
